I don't know if any of you guys have ever looked at Travel Trailers before,
but they are just butt ugly!
We bought a brand new one about a month ago.
And I special ordered it so it wouldn't
have any ginormous unidentifiable flowers in it!
I'm not a flower person!
But! I couldn't get a way from the paisley print!
Needless to say, IT HAD TO GO!
If I had my way about it,
I would paint the whole inside of the unit!
White of course!
But since it's new,
I'd better live with the cherry wood for a while!
We also talked about taking down the cabinet over the bed,
I think we will bump our head on it!
If we don't take it down,
those black glass inserts are the next thing to go!
Paisley pillows gone, valances gone, headboard gone!

When I get more time I'm gonna change out those box valances!
The sofa was on the wall to the right of the screen,
and a dinning table and chairs was in the slide out!
But the sofa makes a bed, and if the bed was out you couldn't walk around it!
Obvious placement for the sofa was in the slide out!
I sold the table and chairs back to the dealership
cause I didn't like them!

A French folding bistro table, (yes it's from France)
stripped down to the bare metal.
And a set of four metal chairs, also stripped down.
They look French, but are not!
Still gotta wax the table and cover the chair bottoms!

ReplyDeletegreat improvement ;). i have some of the same issues but i am dealing with a 7 yr old toyhauler. and my cabinets are not wood ick! so far i have changed out all the knobs,also the counter edging was shrinking off ???? not sure what that was about but replaced with copper edging even hubby liked that.[got at restore] i plan on painting cabinets white. we use this for hunting and vacations so needs to be really rustic also we have 2 kids of the 4 legged variety.

Great changes, Theresa. What a difference a few little subtractions and additions can make. I can't wait to see your new table and chairs. If I know you, you might even be changing out that light fixture for a chandelier (but maybe not practical for a moving vehicle...?).

Theresa- We spent weeks looking at travel trailers last year...and I was all for buying an older one and re-doing it cuz I knew the hubster would not let me make any major changes in a new one. Well, he started looking and if you have been following my blog HE (we-hahaha-NOT) bought a 1976...yes..yes..you read that right...GMC motor home...ORANGE INSIDE and out. The kids are clamoring-Oh leave it..it is so retro....If I leave anything..it will be this house before I am seen in that THING. His idea? Paint it all white outside and call it The Pearl. uh-huh..

Do you think some freaky little gnome-like man is ordering these because he is calling himself a "motor home designer". After the last stitch of Christmas is put away my camping list comes out. We have been seasonal campers for 15 years. I have seen vintage trailers get a total makeover but never thought to make any changes to a brand new one. I have always said I would LOVE to design new travel trailers, guess I should start with my own!! Thanks for the inspiration!!

ReplyDeleteHave always wondered why dealers don't offer the option of decorating your own trailer - they are just so UGLY! Who decorates these anyway! I am really excited to see where else you take the decorating here Theresa! Looks amazing so far. Is that a lace tablecloth on the bed? Have you thought about taking the doors off the over the bed cabinet and putting up a valence of lace? Storage is always such an issue in trailers. Am excited to see more....

I love that bedroom TOT! This post made me laugh, because we bought one last year and the interior looks so much like yours. I had to change it fast! I think I am going to find the man (yes, it has to be a man) one that drinks a lot)) and is color blind)))and then I am going to take his job away from him so he cannot continue this madness.

ReplyDeleteI live in my travel trailer in the winter and it took me about a week to redecorate it. It was so dark and uninviting everytime I would step in it depressed me..and that was all it took..I decided to decorate with a Sunflower, White and Green Theme. Immediately the trailer looked 10 feet bigger, it was bright, homey and inviting. In the spring I'm going to paint the inside white and taht will make it even better..
Your redo made a total difference for sure...

Theresa, You cracked me up. But it is so true- where in the world do they find the tacky borders they put in those trailers - lowes back warehouse of crap that didn't sell years ago? And the fabric they use - it is cheap probably because no on wanted it when it was made..

I was just this minute googling for ideas about this very thing :D I feel like I just ran into a long lost twin I didn't have when I saw your after photos! We ordered a travel trailer today (our first) and I am already redecorating the thing. Like you, I HATE the fugly curtains and wall paper borders, and upholstery fabrics and spreads. eeeewwwww! So glad to know I'm not alone.
