Thankfully We Escaped

I went to church last night and while in church I had my phone on silent. When church was over and I got in the car the first thing I did was check my phone. I had several missed calls and a bone chilling text from Craig that said a TORNADO just passed over the top of our house! I immediately started to shake in my shoes! I called Craig and was terrified of what he would have to report!

He watched the tornado come across the field where these building were destroyed. It is our county fair grounds. It was a large wedge tornado. He watched from the front porch until the wind was so great he had to go inside. He said the tornado was on a straight path for our house. He gathered the dogs and they went to the bathroom. He said he never heard a noise like this in his life, he said it was like a train on top of the house. While in the bathroom he said the whole house shook, vibrated and made loud cracking noises. He said he expected the house to lift off the ground at any second! But it held strong!

Just a few hundred yards from our house the TORNADO lifted off the ground and passed right above our roof! As Craig went outside he said he expected the roof to be completely gone, but it was still there! God was defiantly watching over us! We had a few minor things damaged, but nothing we can't fix ourselves!

These photos are of the fair grounds right across the road from us.

This is the house at the end of our street.

It blew our RV off the blocks and turned it about 3ft.

Thought this was odd! Lifted this glass out of the table and gently placed it on the floor of the deck without breaking it! Most of the damage was under the porch.

What horrible thoughts must have been running through your mind, your husband must have been so afraid of what could be happening at the time he heard the train sound. Now, I couldn't imagine the feeling you must be having now, knowing your husband is safe, your house was spared, and the (what I consider)miracle of the glass being lifted and gently put back down. Wow. Thank you so much for posting. Thank heavens you, your husband and dogs are safe.

I'm so glad you are all okay. I had a chill go up my body when I saw your photo on my sidebar and hoped desperately this wasn't a picture of your home. Very scary and kinda puts things into perspective, doesn't it?

So happy you all are safe. Tornadoes are strange in that they can devastate, yet gently move and replace things. Glad all is ok and no one was injured.

We had T-warnings all afternoon too in our area... I haven't seen anything really bad in our area as far as damage.
Weird about that glass table top!

WOW...God had you guys in the palm of His hand! So glad you are safe and have minor damage. Odd that it would move the trailer but not damage it, and the glass not breaking is just beyond words. Set down by Heavenly hands, no doubt!

Theresa, how terrifying that must have been for your husband to go through, and for you not knowing the extent of the damage.

Living in Kansas, I know how frightening and unpredictable these monsters can be.

The Lord was surely protecting your family that day! I'm so glad you are OK, and the house is still in tact.

My friend in East Texas did a post this morning called, "You're not the boss of me!". Twice yesterday the weather watchers tracked tornados straight for them...they changed or disepated, showing who is in control.

WOW, I am so glad to hear it missed you.
WHat a crazy world, I can't believe that last picture how super crazy is that. How gentle yet deadly tornadoes can be.
Strange though, my family just missed getting hit from the ones in and near st louis last friday. I was telling my mom that I kinda miss the energy and excitement of a storm. The running to the basement, the candles, seeing the storm in the sky. I grew up with it so I guess I just got used to it all. My husband thinks I am crazy to want to move back to the midwest.
But so glad you and family is okay.

TOT,
I don't know which is scarier...the sound of the train or no warning at all. I do know that one can lift a piece of glass gingerly while at the same time drive a piece of straw through a wall. I think that's what makes them so terrifying...the unpredictability of the devastation. I'm so thankful that your home, Craig and the pets are all OK.

God is good! I am thankful you and Craig weren't affected any worse. I am sure it will take him a long time to get that sound out of his head.

We live at Lake Martin in AL. The devastation here is terrible. I can't even imagine how horrible the Northern part of the state is. Thankfully, all members of my family, scattered across the state, are all safe.

It's worth repeating:
