What Makes Us Fall In Love?

With that perfect piece of furniture!

Is it the precise cut
scalloped board on the top?

Is it the use of discarded pieces of material?

Is it the need for a certain size?

Is it the crusty, crackled wonderfulness?

Is it the use of wood and metal?

Is it a wonderful odd pull?

Is it the use of
a different latch on every single door?

Or how about the use of
three different sets of hinges?

Or is it the fact that we know
some handsome man made this piece with pride
for his lovely wife to fulfill all her needs?
What ever the reason,
I love the rush I get when my eyes fall on that perfect piece!
My heart begins to race,
my face starts to get red and flush.
And my head actually starts to spin!
You know the very minute
that the perfect piece presents itself to you.
You know that whatever you have to do
to own that piece, on matter what, it's coming home with you!
Beg, borrow, or steal (not really), but you know what I mean!
Theresa

Yes, I KNOW "that" feeling very well when you just have to have it, when it calls your name, when you can't quit thinking about it! I totally understand why that piece called your name. It is totally awesome!!

Take care, Sue

Yummy piece! Yesterday, my daughter and I went to a fabric store that you have to walk through a high end furniture store to get to. On the way out, we noted that we hated every piece of expensive new furniture in there. Then we had a good laugh and decided if it's not old, chipped up, peeling paint, repaired or in need of repairs, we just couldn't love it.

Gorgeous piece! Every thing 'odd' about it is perfection. And I love your thoughts of some handsome man making this for his beloved! Enjoy every bit of chippy paint and rust.

I think it's all of the above! What a wonderful piece and I do know what you mean and didn't know others got those same feelings about old junk. My family certainly doesn't get it!

Have fun with your new little piece of heaven.

Don't you just love how nothing was wasted or thrown away? If it still worked, it was kept and put to use. I love that frugal view of the world, rather than our throw-away approach today. There is so much character in old furniture pieces. Just wish my hubby felt the same way I do!
